About Gary

Gary's Story

Gary

Gary had 3 important things in his life. Family and friends, work and fishing.
He loved spending time with his girls, his family and being at home. His work ethic was second to none, and you could guarantee that if he had a job to do, he would do it to a perfect standard. He worked hard to supply a good life for his family, with the added bonus of saying he loved his job. Gary ran his own business, with his 2 brothers working along side him on his building projects. As a trained carpenter, Gary had an eye for detail and this allowed him to pick up many other skills during his working life.

Fishing was Gary's passion away from home. He was a members of various lakes around England and would spend many weekends relaxing, trying to beat his PB. Gary was well known around his local fishing spots. Many holidays were spent near a lake, with many plans to take his family to his favourite places. He was in pursuit of a UK PB of a 50lb carp, getting as close as 48lb! He had however caught a 60lb whilst on holiday abroad.

In July 2019 everything changed!

July 2019

Gary was diagnosed with asthma at a very young age. He managed his asthma well. In the few years running up to 2019 he had several asthma attacks that resulted in emergency treatment. July 2019 was no different.

Gary suffered an asthma attack at home. Paramedics got him to Medway Maritime Hospital as soon as they could, and that resulted in him fighting for his life in ICU. Unfortunately, his family's worst nightmare came true and Gary lost his battle.

During the time with Gary in ICU, his family was asked if they knew about his decision on Organ Donation. Gary had been quite vocal about this several times, mainly with his brothers whilst at work. As a family, this was spoken about at the hospital and then they found out he was on the Organ Donation Register 3 times! This made their decision easy. Selfless in death as in life, Gary became an organ donor, saving the lives of several people.
